Salsa Culture FAQ

I have never danced before in my life! Do I need any dance experience to start dancing Salsa?

Not at all, at Salsa culture we have classes for all levels of dancers - absolute beginners to advance.
Most of our now advanced dancers started as absolute beginners at our clubs & we always have brand new members starting every week.

Do I need to book?
Salsa Culture offer two different options for you to learn how to Salsa.

Intensive 8 week courses - Your Highway to Salsa! Structured, intensive courses designed for quick progression, starting every 8 weeks. It is recommended that you reserve your place on your chosen course or book online.
Drop in Classes - Our weekly drop in classes (just as popular as the courses) are ideal for students who can’t commit to a course or who just like to learn at a more relaxed pace. No need to book or pay in advance- just turn up.

What if I miss a class?

Not a problem - for beginner’s drop in classes basic steps, moves and turn patterns are repeated regularly so you’ll soon catch up.

However if you are on a course it is best to try and attend most of the lessons. The strategy of our courses aims for quick progression which can only be achieved through commitment.

What should I wear?

Footwear: Avoid trainers as you’ll stick to the floor (they also mark some wooden floors) & very high heels. There are no rules but I’d advise for ladies to go for a low/medium heeled shoe with a non grip sole & men to opt for a low heel with a non grip sole. As you improve you’ll appreciate the benefits of professional Salsa shoes, but don’t worry about that for now.
Clothes: For regular club nights wear whatever you feel comfortable in; casual/smart casual. Avoid any thing too warm as it tends to get hot. We regularly hold events which have a more glamorous dress code but don’t worry this is well promoted.

Do I need a partner? Can I come alone?
No you don’t need a partner and yes you can come alone. Our classes run on a rotation system where you’ll get the opportunity to meet and dance with everyone in your class.

Anything Else?

Just remember to have fun. Salsa is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends, learn a great new skill and get fit whilst doing it. Our team of instructors are always at hand to help you if you have any queries.
